TRAIN FROM VENICE TO FLORENCE
Trenitalia covers the route Venice – Florence with Freccia, Fast Regional and Intercity trains. If you want to get there faster, the option is the Freccia trains.
Intercity trains are the second best option: they take less time than regional trains and cost the same. But the big disadvantage is that they only have two departures a day.
Here are all the options so that you can choose the one that is most convenient for you.
They depart several times a day between 5.20 a.m. and 7.25 p.m. from the stations Venezia Mestre and Venezia Santa Lucia to Firenze Santa Maria Novella directly (to Campo di Marte with combination in Verona).
The journey takes between 2 hours and 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The ticket costs between 32.90 and 42.90 euros, depending on the time.
Regionali Veloci Trains
They leave several times a day between 5:50 a.m. and 7:50 p.m. from the stations Venezia Mestre and Venezia Santa Lucia to Firenze Santa Maria Novella directly (to Campo di Marte with combination in Verona).
The journey takes between 4 and 5 hours. There are no direct trains, everyone makes two or three combinations.
The ticket costs between 19.70 and 20.35, depending on the timetable.
It goes from Venezia Mestre to Firenze Rifredi.
It leaves twice a day, at 9:34 and 14:34.
The trip takes about 3 hours.
The ticket costs 19.90.
Please check the Trenitalia website in advance to confirm times and prices, as they vary according to the season. If you buy your ticket online in advance you will get a much lower price.

BUS FROM VENICE TO FLORENCE
This service is provided by the companies Flixbus and Buscenter. Either will drop you off at Villa Costanza and from there you will take the T1 tram to the centre of Florence.
Without doubt, Flixbus is the most convenient choice in terms of frequency, price and speed. At Buscenter you have to get your ticket out quite early because they only have three departures a day and you can’t get tickets less than a month in advance.
The direct bus trip Venice-Florence takes 3 and a half hours. With transfer in Bologna, 4 and a half hours.
Buses leave from Venice Mestre or Venice Tronchetto, according to the schedule, and arrive at Villa Costanza. From there you can take the T1 tram to reach the centre of Florence (Santa Maria Novella stop).
The single ticket costs between 8,99 and 17,99 euros, depending on the timetable. The direct bus trip Venice-Florence takes between 3.5 and 4.5 hours.
Buses depart from Venice Marco Polo Airport at 11:25 am; from Venice Tronchetto at 12:00 pm; and from Venice Mestre at 12:20 pm. All arrive at Villa Costanza. From there you can take the T1 tram to reach the centre of Florence (Santa Maria Novella stop).
The single ticket costs 19,99 euro.
Sadly, direct flights are not available. Flights have a short stopover in Munich, Rome, or Zurish and the journey will take around 2 hours and 50 minutes.
This is a hassle because going through airport checkpoints makes this very expensive and time-consuming.
Traveling with Kids (Trains)
As a rule, children that are not 12 must not travel alone and be accompanied by their guardian. 12 to 16-year-olds can travel alone, provided they have a signed document showing that their guardians consent. If you want to learn more about this rule, contact Trenitalia.
Italo has discounts for seniors, families, and children. Children not more than 36 months don’t need to pay a fee, there are no assigned seat and the child will sit in the lap of the adult. If there are two infants, the adult must purchase another seat.
The family-friendly program by Italo, allows every member of the family to seat together and avail a discount. Book two to four seats where one that is above 18.
In this situation, those under 14 in the family will ride for free, given infants 36 under doesn’t need to pay. There is also a 40 percent discount when reserved at least 3 days before the ride.
Trenitalia allows under 4 to ride for free, given they don’t occupy any seat, but sit in the lap of an adult. However, they can also purchase seats for the children sold at the child rate. If the child is 4-11 years old, there is a 50 percent discount on an adult rate ticket. If the train is not full, children can occupy empty seats.
Bimbi Gratis package is for those under 15 to have a free ride. To avail, tickets should have been purchased a couple of days beforehand as a member of a 2-5 group family, which must have 1 adult. Child ticket then is free, but the adult rate is the same.
