Chicago, the city of wind, skyscrapers and pizza that looks more like a cake than anything else. And it’s so good! In an earlier post, we told you everything you can see and do in Chicago, today it’s time to talk about where to put on a few pounds. Yes: we are going to tell you about 10 restaurants where to eat in Chicago.
This is without a doubt the most famous restaurant where you can eat cheaply in Chicago. It’s an institution in the city! According to many locals, Portillo’s has the best hot dogs in town. It’s true that we haven’t tried them all, but you have to admit that they’re very good.
Not only do they serve hot dogs, but they also make pasta, hamburgers, salads, etc. And the best thing of all is the prices. Without a doubt, our favorite place to eat cheaply in Chicago. We’d come back every day!
This place is a buffet restaurant. You will find varied and very good quality food. And best of all, the prices are very reasonable. It’s all by weight. If you want to eat fresh and cheap in Chicago it’s a great option. It is located inside the Water Tower Place building on the Magnificent Mile.
If you want to eat a good burger, we suggest you try Epic Burger. There are plenty of places in the city centre, so it won’t be hard to find one. What we liked most was the bread, it was great! You can also make your own burgers: you choose the bread, the meat and the add-ons. They cost about $8.
Although you can’t eat the famous Chicago-style pizza here, you’ll get a better one! The pizzas are delicious and very well priced. They have the place right next to the Trump Tower, so couldn’t be more central! For your reference, the pizzas are about $15 and they also serve salads and good lasagna.
This is another historic restaurant where you can try the typical Chicago hot dogs. The place is very curious and fun: you are welcomed by two hot dogs dancing on the roof of the building! Some will tell you that Portillo’s are better and others will be more Superdawg.
Try both! They’re two great ways to eat cheaply in Chicago.
If you like Mexican food, especially birrias, you can’t miss this restaurant. They say they eat the best birrias in Chicago! The place is small and you have to be patient to eat, but I’m sure it’s worth the wait.
Al’s #1 Italian Beef
If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat, you can’t miss any of their places (there are several in town). After many years in the business – they opened in 1938 – they’ve earned a reputation for serving the best steak sandwiches in town, although we’re sticking with Portillo’s! They also serve pasta, salads, hamburgers and other dishes.
And finally we can’t forget to mention this restaurant, which was one of the first to invent Chicago-style pizza. Is it a pizza or a lasagna? Because with how thick it is it almost reminds us more of the second option! It may not be the cheapest restaurant to eat in Chicago but it’s worth visiting. It’s a historical place and the pizzas are really good. The smallest one (which is not small) has a price of 20$ but it is spectacular.
The only negative is that it’s a very busy place and they take a long time to serve you (but it’s understandable). We ate more cheese on that pizza than we have in our whole lives!
